Do it myself or...

OK... so i got my rims and dropped them off at STS to have the T1Rs put on.
Manager mentions i may want to think about getting the tire protection program @ $12/tire.
It includes... free balancing, free rotations for the life of the tire and free replacement for the 1st year for anything like blowouts or whatever.
I ask "free rotations huh? Will you swap out my winter/summer tires/rims for the life of the toyos?" Answer:"Yes."
So for $50 they will swap out my rims as long as my toyos are there. Which should be 4-5yrs, since i'll do 6000mi/yr on them.
I was going to buy a jack($30) and a torque wrench($50-100). So that would be a minimum of $80 and I'd have to do it myself... or just drive my wheels to STS during lunch twice a year and they do it for me.
STS is 6 minutes from my office.

So what do you think?

BTW i posted this under my old thread... but it got no play.

they could still scratch up your wheels. this is a simple DIY thing... i would
not let anyone touch my car just for that.

When i need new tires wrapped, i just buy new wheels with new tires, or
just drive them over to a reputable store like tirerack where i know they
will not scratch up my lip. (off the car)

2nd kenchan, if your rims are expensive, you better do that yourself, 'cos they may scratch your rims' surface, loose your center cap, etc. I once experienced my SUV wheel surface was scratched by a local store for putting on a new set of tires. Though the rims are not very expensive (~150 ea.), I bet you won't feel good about it, at least I felt kinda hurt .

manager himself isn't going to swap the wheels for ya.
unknown techs will be touching your wheels...
thats why I took my TDR pros off.. it looks quite disgusting now..
I will never let others touch my wheels again..

you don't have to buy all that junk, just use your handy dandy mini jack and lug wrench.
i did a program like that, except it was like $6 a tire or somthin, i haven't made any use of it yet, i find it easy to jack the ol mini up and swap winters for summers myself. but i think it is good to have your wheels balanced for free when eve, pluss in case you get some serious damage to the tire they can help you out, my plan covers my rubber for damage and random bad luck like getting a rebar stuck in you tire or something, haha. oh the shop i got my deal from where nice and smaller operation, much better then less schwab cronies or somethin
