track tires
I am looking for recomendations for track tires - r compounds. This is not my Club Racer and will only be used for lapping days (instructor group) therefore I want long lasting vs the fastest tire (i.e., Hoosier need not apply
).
It appears as if we have very few options in the 17" size. Toyo is 205 40 17 and 225 40 17. Yoko and Pirelli each have a 215 45 17.
Can we clear a 225 40 17? My car is lowered on H&Rs/Bilsteins with front camber pates.
What are you guys using? Tires and size?

Just go with the RA1 205-40-17 shaved at 4/32. Very quick track tire.
They don't make a 225-17 in the RA1, you'ed have to go with a 235 at that point which takes a bit of work .
Fitting a 225 on a lowered mini is also going to take a good amount of work. my 225 Hoosiers are wider then my 235 RA1s, so it really depends on the brand.
Anyway the 205 will be faster on Minis unless you are pushing some big HP. Also unless you have an 8.5-9" rim you just don't get the most out of 225 track tires. The 205 is very happy on a 7.5" rim.

I'm currently running the new Nitto NT01s in 205/40/17 on 17x7 rims. The load rating is low but for solo driving, I haven't had a problem. I DO NOT run these on the street EVER. Seem to be wearing well. I expect to get several track weekends out of these.(5 or 6 maybe). Available from Discount tire.
It seems that the Toyo RA1, shaved to 4/32nds is the tire of choice though. Same size (205/40/17) but has a higher load rating.
