Toyo Proxes 4 vs. Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S
Toyo Proxes 4 vs. Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S
Looking to replace the OEM Dunlop runflats on my '05 MCS with one of the above in 205/50R16. Staying with AS because the car is a daily driver, with spirited driving in between commutes.
Comparing both on 1010Tire.com, ratings are very close:
Category / Proxes 4 / P-Zero
Dry / 4.7 / 4.8
Wet / 4.6 / 4.5
Snow / 3.5 / 3.3
Handling / 4.6 / 4.6
Comfort / 4.6 / 4.5
Noise / 4.4 / 4.5
Treadwear / 4.2 / 4.3
Also replacing the wheels with 5Zigens from Edgeracing.com, so will bundle with the tires they offer. Toyos are $78, Pirelli's are $98.
And comparing tire weights, the Toyo's are 2.5 lbs. lighter!
So with similar ratings, $20 less each and 2.5 lbs. less each, choosing the Toyo's would seem to be a no-brainer.
But from reading this forum, the Pirelli's seem to be the more popular choice.
Am I missing something here? Will the 2.5 lb. weight difference really make any noticeable difference in performance?
Thanks! yds

Can only comment from having had the Pzero Neros on my Audi TT for about 2 years. Very nice tires, good performing and low noise. However, for my '06 MC, I'm going to try the Toyo Proxes tpt - I hear and read great things about the tire, and it's available in 185/65/15, and for some reason the tire is somewhat "shorter" than most in that size & aspect ratio - about 24.2 vs. 24.4 (I had Edgeracing verify. It's extremely light weight, which counts on an MC, and makes it just right if you don't want to go too wide for the holeys or shorten up the gearing. Please post your impressions if you go with the Toyos.
Thanks, mini552. Less weight counts especially when we're talking unsprung weight. For me, I'll lose 3 lbs. from each rim and another 2.5 - 3 lbs. from each tire if I go with the Toyos.
I'll post my thoughts on them, but it'll be awhile before they're on the car and broken in.
