Stick-On vs. Clip-on Wheel Weights

My new tires were installed today, and in addition to a new scratch on one of my wheels, the tech put clip-on weights on the backside of the wheels as opposed to stick-on weights. Is there any problem with this? Should I have them changed to stick-ons for any reason?

Actually, the tech did you a favor by installing clip-on weights. Clip-on weights give you a better balance since they are out on the furthest point of the rim..

For certain parts of the balance, it takes less weight the farther out on the rim, but the price is that it's not nice to the surface of the paint, or machined lip or whatever.

For stick ons, since you're relying on adhesive, I usually put some Al foil tape on top, just to make sure. But it's your choice, really. The shop I get my tire work done can even have the machine calculate how much wieght is needed if you want them placed behind spokes, for a wieghtless look. This involves installing two lighter weights where one would have worked before.

After all that, it's not that big a deal. Just make sure you're clear on what you want when you get them balanced next time.

Matt

my vote

Stick on for me please...
The foil tape is a good idea.

the "behind spoke" placement is a nice idea.
I have low friends in high places (v:v). I am going to look into that.
