Different tires Front and Rear?

I have an 05 S with LSD that I planto autox again this year. Last year I bought 205 16 Kuhmo ecxta v700 's and had a great time. I actually had a couple of good outings. Evertone seems to use the 710's . The problem for me having two cars (Triumph TR8 needs azenis) and three sets of tires,is I am going to be tire poor. DOes it make sense to run my perfectly good v700's on the rear and run 710s on the front???
WHat should I expect? I see Honda drivers with mixed tires... a couple are perennial class champs.

710's and 700's are pretty darn diffrent. I wouldn't recomend it.

In a related issue, why does the MINI use the same tire pressure F & R, when there is twice as much weight on the front tires?

Wouldn't you get better ride and grip with a few pounds less pressure in the rear tires?

If you are looking at the load requirements with passengers then you'd want adequate tire pressure and probably have it even for each of the four tires.
There is a range you can make it from about 34 psi for one or two people to about 37 to 38 psi for four people.

For performance driving you can make the pressures in the front a little higher than the rears as it affects handling a bit. Depends how hard you drive and corner.

For Autocross, you can use various tires front vs rear but you will need to compensate for different characteristics of the tires used. It's not always that easy to do. For best results use the same tires front and rear.

If needed use V710 and sell the extra used V700 tires to a friend with a MINI.

V710's and V700's are very different. (especially if the V710's are new and the V700's have been heat cycled many times.) If you put the V700's on the back and V710's on the front expect a very loose handling car. Another problem, especially autocrossing, is that it will handle different in the first turn than it does in the last turn, since they will get up to tempeture at different rates. (which would make the car hard to get used to.) Some autocrossers do put a smaller tire on the rear, but it's usually the same compound. I don't think it would hurt to try it at an autocross, just expect to spin at the first turn.
