Misfired TPMS Light?
Misfired TPMS Light?
I was driving home last night after work with my snow tires on, and after merging from one highway to another (with some brisk acceleration) my TPMS light came on! This has never happened to me before, so I slowed down and found a safe place to pull over under some lights. I was only 5 minutes from home, so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't riding on the rims.. Everything looked OK, so I proceeded on home and check the pressures all around, there was a couple of PSI difference, but all the tires were around 35-37psi, which is fine..
Has anyone had this light come on for no good reason? The owners manual mentions something about "brisk or spirited driving" causing it to come on, but this was hardly the most "Spirited" driving I have ever done, and I have never seen this light before!
Any info would be great!

Yes, it happens from time to time. For me, it usually happens when it's wet out. But it's only happened to me 3 or 4 times in 80,000 miles.
Just check the pressures, reset the system, and then check the pressures again the next day to make sure things are okay.

I switched from 16" to 17" when I first purchased my car, and when I left the tire dealer the TPMS light went on within 5 minutes. Obviously, I knew nothing was wrong but checked anyway. All wheels & tires were fine. I asked the dealer when I went in for a check-up and they said whenever I change my wheel size, I'll the sensor will go off and I'll need to reset the TPMS.
bumping this......I've got the opposite - the TPMS didn't go off. LF was 28lbs and the rest were 34-36lbs. I know the system compares the wheels on the same axle, but 6PSI difference and no trigger?

I regularly have a 10 psi difference between front and rear tires when I autocross and the light has never come on because of it (might be because I don't drive enough distance though). Mine does seem to come on randomly once or twice a year. I just reset it and it goes away. I do have three different sets of 15" wheels with three different tire sizes on them, but swapping from one to another doesn't seem to set it off.
