Brake pad installation...

I'm very anxiously awaiting my shop manual. One week until my DE event... not much time left to break in the pads.

Anyone care to shed a little light on the install - torques specs would really be helpfull too.

I'm sure I can figure all this out quite easily. But my only chance is late at night...not very alert at these hours, I'm old.

Assuming you have the stock calipers:

1. Remove the stock caliper bolts (behind plastic caps) using a 7mm allen wrench or socket
2. Remove the stock pad wear sensors and stock pads from the caliper. You can use a large flat head screwdriver or pliers to remove the wire retainer
3. Use a large "C" clamp or Snap-On caliper piston tool to retract the caliper piston (to make room for thicker pads). You will need to rotate the rear caliper pistons as you push the piston back in. A BMW tool comes in handy here or the Snap-On caliper piston tool
4. Install new pads and reinstall the pad wear sensors (once they "go off" they must be replaced with new parts). Reattach the wire retaining clip to each caliper.
5. Tighten all caliper bolts to 24 ft-lbs.
6. Follow any number of pad "break-in" procedures

If your brake fluid is older than 3 months it might not be a bad idea to run some new fluid through those lines for a DE. I recommend an uprated fluid like ATE SuperBlue or Motul RBF 600.
