Run Flat Tire Repair w Fix-a-Flat?
Run Flat Tire Repair w Fix-a-Flat?
Scheduled delivery of my new MCS w 17" All Season Run Flats is mid Dec 2005.
The prospect of not having a spare is bugging me a bit.
Others in this forum have anticipated using fix-a-flat & a portable compressor as an alternative to driving on depressurized run flats.
Has anyone actually used fix-a-flat to repair a run flat tire? How well did it work?
Should I expect a fix-a-flat repair to be merely a temporary fix, assuming that I don't drive on the depressurized tire before I use the fix-a-flat?
Thanks for your help with these questions.

That's a good question. But I'm not sure why you would need to bother. The run-flats can let you go about 50 miles at limited speeds until you can get someone to get the tire fixed or replaced.

Both have pros and cons.
The one thing they BOTH have in common is this:

Get a blowout in the middle of nowhere, like the desert, and no amount of goop nor any RF is going to save you. You better have a spare
Good luck
PLUG it, why put goo in the inside of a tire?
I heard it can explode when they remove the tire from the rim later at the shop. I even plug motorcycle tires. I think the address I used is tirerepairkit.com, they'll send you a 10 dollar kit and you send them a check.
I've already been cross state on a current plug in my trade-in car. I would never run anywhere but to the corner gas station on a "donut". Idiots run around all the time on those, even seen some at hiway speeds.
Plug her, air it up (compressor or CO2 tire inflators, even a hand pump if you have the energy and time),and go. Easier to air up again if you have the wheel off so you aren't trying to lift the car. But then I am certainly "old school"...
Won't help if you throw the whole "shoe" as in the retread pic above or have a puncture in the sidewall, then you need that spare wheel. But I agree with the one other poster that I have driven for over thirty years or so and only changed a handful of tires, even then.
