Yoko AVS ES-100 vs. Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S

Has anyone gone from the Yokos to the Pirellis for better wear? I realize that the AVS ES-100 is a summer tire and the P-Zero Nero is an all-season, so I expect to take a step backward in performance, but hopefully not too much. I do not need a tire for snow, I just want to consider a better-wearing tire. Grip and cornering are very important and upon doing a few "searches" it seems like the Pirellis are one of the best all-season tires out there, after all, it's an "ultra high performance" all-season. Is the sidewall stiff enough? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also, these tires are for a daily driver. I do a few autocrosses a year just for fun.

Though I am not familiar with either of the tires, you may also want to check out the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Once again, they get great reviews on tirerack, but they are a bit pricey. I went with the Kumho Ectsa ASX for more or less the same reason as you on my other car. Performance wise, they are a pretty big step down, but they make up for it with comfort and ride which could be very helpful in a Mini if that is a concern at all.

Another thing to look at are the Avon Tech M550's. They are all season and I just purchased them for the Mini and plan on putting them on tomorrow or Friday.

Have/Had them both... And I'll be in a similar situation in the spring when i can finally ditch the runflats..

Yoko's on my E30 325iX were excellent tires in dry and wet. a little noisy as they wore, but nothing horrible by any means. very predictible handeling, and ideal pricepoint.

Pirellis on our Saab 900SE also far exceeded expectations with grip, stability and wear (something impressive on a HEAVY Saab) You'll compromise a little for the A/S capabilities but it's a very little compromise.

If wear is a big factor, you will not be disappointed w/ the Pirelli's. If I recall Ian has them on GBMINI3 so maybe he can give a 1st hand opinion of the feel on a MINI.

Not a direct comparison, but I put a bunch of miles on a friend's car (a Neon) with AVS ES-100's and drove an '05 Mustang GT last year with the A/S Pirelli P-Zero Neros. I wasn't terribly impressed with the cornering grip of the A/S Pirellis although I did like the summer version of the Neros I had on a Neon I owned. When I get my Mustang next year, I'll be relegating the stock A/S Neros to winter duty. If all-season capability isn't a concern for you, I'd look for a summer performance tire with a little better wear than the Yokos. Practically every A/S tire compromises some ultimate dry grip for A/S utility.
