Plastic centering rings

I ordered a set of track wheels and tires from Alex at the tire rack. I was promised aluminum rings and it's written on my invoice but I received only the plastic ones. I e-mailed him but have received no response.

Anyone else get stuck with these plastic ones? Have any problems with them at the track?

Alex will take care of you. He has never failed to respond by phone or e-mail to me. Remember this is a holiday weekend.

yeh, Alex is my guy for wheels and tires. you can trust him, there was

probably some mix up in the transaction. The wheels i buy from tirerack
(mostly SSR's) comes with aluminum rings (usually made by mille).

I hope you guys are right, because I e-mailed him 4 days ago and there were other issues with the order. Maybe Katrina problems?

I had the same issue when I bought a set of Kosei K1's from TireRack / Alex. My mechanic said the plastic rings should work fine so I ran with them. Now up to three full days at the track with zero problems.

It's the holiday weekend right now but try emailing Alex again to let him know.

I had the same thing happen and Alex helped to get the metal rings to me to replace the plastic ones.

I prefer metal to plastic for track use due to the higher heat of the brakes and wheels. I've melted plastic rings before. For street and autocross the plastic rings are OK.

The rings are only a wheel mounting aid. You don't really need or have to have them. If you use the plastic one's at the track and run hard they will melt/distort as do the center caps. Just leave that stuff off, pay attention when mounting your wheels and torque on the lug bolts. Be sure to check lug bolt torque after first heat cycle.
