Over the course of the last 2 weeks, my car has developed a strange vibration. It does not happen all the time. When I notice it is when I am in second gear while at WOT or cruising on the highway starting at 60 mph. It is not a terrible vibration. It is very slight. But, I do notice it most when accellerating quickly. Also, when cruising on the highway, there is a noticeable noise coming from a tire/tires. It sounds as though I have summer performance tires on the car. But, I am still running the stock runflats. They are not bald, but certainly worn quite well. Is it possible that this is from tire wear or am I looking at something different?

Oh, the car is an 04 Cooper S. 40,000 miles, tires have about 30,000 on them. H&R springs. No noticeable wear from camber.

If you guys have any idea what the problem might be or any suggestions is would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 

Perhaps you threw a wheel weight or two leaving a wheel out of balance?

Also, check your tire pressures, perhaps one or more is low/uneven.

 

I will try the pressures in the morning. It is so subtle that might be it. I am just hoping it is not something more serious...although I am not sure what else it could really be besides the tires.
