Such things as Runflat rims?

I own a 2003 MINI Cooper with 16" OEM rims and the Dunlop runflats. My question is: Can I take off the 16" runflat tires, and fit standard (non-runflat) 16" tires on the rims? I'm asking because I don't know if runflat rims are different than standard rims and if they only "work" with runflat tires.

Thanks,

-Boognish

You're good with other rims, it's just the tires that are runflats

There are some run-flat tire "systems" that require a special wheel. The MINI does not use one of these systems. You'll be OK with installing new skins onto the stock rims.

Yup - just did this with my 16's...the runflats were horrible, replaced with 205/50/16 Pirelli All seasons and the ride is much smoother and more comfortable than the harsh runflats. The handling is still though

Considerably more comfortable than conventional runflats and no air needed.

(Like mini independent suspension built into each tire).

For racing that means you cannot adjust tire pressures to alter handling!
Awh, that's no fun.
