Wheel size options
Wheel size options
Hi folks, a while since I’ve posted since I’d sold my R55. I’m looking at a little R50 base with stock 15” wheels. The tires are 175/65/15’s. They need to be replaced and I’m wondering what is the widest size I can fit on the 15” stock wheels? I feel the 175’s are just so narrow aesthetically. On a similar note will the 16” and 17” stock Mini wheels work/fit? I don’t want to fuss with a change in Speedo readings. Thoughts?

OEM rims are 15" x 5-1/2" +45
You could possibly go up to a 195/60-15, but you'll sacrifice some steering and handling responsiveness. If you want something wider, I wouldn't go any bigger than a 185/65-15 on the OEM rims.
If you want a wider tire and better handling, look for some take-off 16" Miata rims. 16" Miata wheels will be lightweight to preserve the responsiveness of the base Mini. However, the center bore will be slightly smaller, but can be opened up to fit with a dremel tool. They will also be 6" wide, and will fit a 205/50-16
