wheels and tires

Unlike my other cars, the wheel rims on my clubman seem to stick out farther than the tires, resulting in a lot of curb rash. I have runflat 225x40R18 tires on 18 inch rims. The advice I've gotten so far is that I can't have larger tires installed because they would rub against the struts. I wouldn't mind changing tires since I don't like the runflats. Any advice?

Yes, there are some tires a bit wider which may help protect the wheels somewhat. I have 8 inch wheels on a 2020 Countryman (7.5 inch are standard), and run Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate in the standard size. They have a little bit of protection because of the way the sidewall sticks out a bit. But, in the end it's all up to the driver...you simply have to take the geometry into consideration when you get close to curbs. I have Zero curb rash on these wheels in about 75,000 mile of operation...I really pay close attention when parking.
