Wider tires/rims

Looking to get wider tires/rims on my 2013 R56. Right now it’s got 205/45R17. What size have you guys put on? I was thinking of keeping my rims and just putting some Falken 205/50R17 on

It is very easy to go up to 215/45-17, but that’s probably the biggest I would go on OEM wheels. 205/50-17 might be too big diameter. The front wheels get close to the struts.

@njaremka wouldn't you have to go down to 40 if you're going up to 215 and then even lower to 35 if you go up to 225?

OK, OEM is 205/45-17, tire diameter needs to be kept close to OEM 24.3" to fit the suspension for clearance and travel.
225/35-17 search at tirerack.com gives Zero results

205/45-17 fits rims 6.5 - 7.5" wide, perfect for 7" wide rim, tire diam 24.3"
205/50-17 fits rims 5.5 - 7.5" wide, perfect for 6.5" wide rim, tire diam 25.1"
215/45-17 fits rims 7-8" wide, perfect for 7" wide rim, tire diam 24.7"
For racing, Extreme Summer tires
215/40-17 fits rims 7-8.5" wide, perfect for 7.5" wide rim, tire diam 23.8"

From these, tire selection may be limited depending on which tire you are considering. 25.1" tire diam. is tall but some owners have used it on an R56. It's too tall for an R53.
215/45-17 is the more common solution and is widely available. 215/40-17 is more limited and favors race or DOT 200 treadwear tires which are stiff riding, noisy and wear faster, but that tire size will work.
All of these will fit OEM 17x7" rims.
