Tire conundrum
Tire conundrum
I'm trying to decide between 205/50/16 General GMax AS 05 and 205/55/16 GMax RS. I have X- lites 16*6.5 for wheels. I have another set I use for winter so I really don't need an all-season tire. Give me your 2 cents on these two choices or feel free the throw out another idea.
I have an R53 that I mainly use as a daily but I wouldn't mind using it for an autox now and again, btw.

Firehawk Indy 500 in 205/50-16?

Not an all-season, in the proper size, and asymmetric for better tire rotations.

I plan to order a set of Firehawk Indy 500's in 205/50-16 for my '03S in the next month or so to replace the Comp 2's that have reached the end of their life. They are rated well for a summer tire and should give an improved ride as well.

Indy 500 not quite as good for street use, not as good in wet
Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 Ultra High Perf Summer tire, 300 treadwear
205/50-16 $112 each, 19 lbs, V speed rated
205/55-16 $112 each, 20 lbs, W speed rated
For street use the UHP Summer tires look OK, prices, weights and speed ratings look similar enough. In general 50 series sidewalls are a little stiffer than 55 series but it may vary with each tire as some ride more comfortably in general than others. UHP All Season will give a little more treadlife but won't handle and perform as well for performance driving. Autocross will be vastly better with Summer tire.
Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 is worth a look in 205/50-16.
BFG G-Force Comp 2 A/S Plus is a common daily driver choice for UHP AS tire in 205/50-16
