tire feedback

I am stuck on a choice between Continental ControlContact Sport SRS or the Michelin pilot sport a/s 3+. I can get them for the same price. I currently have DWS06 and wish they could handle a little better. Discount Tire said (I know I know) that the Control contact should be about the same as the Michelin. What do you guys think?

I can't comment on the Contis, but I can't imagine a better all season tire than the A/S 3+. They were great in all conditions, and quiet. The only reason they're not on my F54 is that the originals haven't worn down yet.

I just went from Continental ExtremeContact Sport max performance summer tires (215/45-17) to the DWS06. Needless to say, the DWS06 is not as direct and planted as the Sport, but I'm finding it works pretty well, although it is very sensitive to pressure ... much more so than the sport. I'm currently running 37 front and 35 rear, which seems to be working pretty well. I've got a little over a thousand miles on the tires and they seem to have improved after break-in.

I almost went with the Michelins, but the feedback on noise bothered me since I do a fair amount of long trips ... the DWS is definitely a quiet tire. So far, I'm liking them the longer I use them, they are very stable. That said, they still tend to squirm a bit more than I like ... still, not sure I'd trade them for another Conti A/S tire. At least one review I found suggests the DWS06 handles much more crisply (https://tirereviewsandmore.com/conti...rt-as-reviews/)

I agree I took the DSW06 off because I did not like the handling. They hold well but there is that few seconds of sidewall flex that make you wonder. The new Conti's seem to do the same thing but to a less extent. I agree about the road noise and Michelin. I also read the ride was harsh. I guess the conti's are the trade off for noise and performance.

My R53 has Continental ControlContact Sport A/S in 215/45R 17 size. I have 45,000 miles on them. I had the same Contis in 225/45R 17 on my wife's old Volvo C70, but replaced them with Pirelli PZeros after 2 of the Contis suffered catastrophic failure. I no longer trusted them on that car and got rid of them after 19,000 miles. At this point the Contis one the MINI are at the end of their lives due to age mostly. The tread is still within safe specs (around 4/32nds) but the tires are now hard riding and don't grip all that well. I am currently shopping for new tires.

My Jetta GLI has Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3 Plus in 225/45R 17 size. I have a little over 30,000 miles on them. The Michelins have proven to ride better and wear seems to be comparable. The grip of the Michelins is and always has been better than the Contis.

At this point I am down to either the Michelins or the Pirelli PZeros. More than likely the Michelins.

I found that the DWS can work very well, but is very sensitive to pressures. I started out at 34 front and 32 rear and they were very squirmy. I gradually upped the pressure and settled with 37F/35R, which seems to work pretty well. It will be interesting to see how they wear.

Well the new SRS are supposed to be the newer version of the DSW06 but made specifically for tire discounters. I guess I will live with them. They ride pretty good and are quiet except for some road noise at lower speeds. They are very quiet at highway speeds. They handle pretty good, but do attack a little late in a corner, but feel predictable when they do.

I think I made a big mistake by opting for the DWS06 tires. I was reasonably satisfied with them around town and had no issues since we were essentially locked down for months. Finally, I had to travel to the dealer for service (about 60 miles away). At freeway speeds (80-85), I was surprised at how noisy they were. Also, they were overly sensitive to steering input and they were very harsh when hitting imperfections. When I got home, I dropped the pressure to 35 all around and saw an immediate improvement.

That is, until I had to visit the dealer again this week. Under 70 MPH, all was good: however, once I increased the pace the noise level increased significantly. I even shifted to Green mode to cut the ASD off and the noise was definitely from the tires. Not happy at all.

Previously, I ran the Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires and was very happy with them. Crisp, smooth and silent ... the DWS06 is not even close. I'll most likely be replacing them with a new set of the Sport tire before MTTS 2021.
