16X9 or 17X9 Fitment: Autocross/Track R56
Anyone fit a 16X9 or 17X9 +45 on the R56 S w/o much issue?
I'm running a 215 Federal RSRR on a 17X8 but would like a bit wider rubber. Can't really go wider w/o rolling on sidewalls.
I'd run at least a 225/45 on a 17X9 or a 225/50 on a 16X9. 245 is probably too ambitious.
I also run 15X8s with 225/45 BFG Rivals but the gearing is just too low.

I think a 45 offset would be too high and you'll contact the strut with a 9" wide wheel up front or the trailing arm out back. What's the offset of your 17x8?
Even if you did get a 17x9 to fit I'm not sure that you'd be able to fit anything wider than a 215/205 on it. If you're running the car reasonably low there just isn't that much space in the wheel well. We used to run a 235/40/17 pinched onto a 17x7.5 and it would contact the outer edge of the fender liner and the top of the wheelwell under bumps. If you move to a 15x9 with a stiff enough front spring you can run whatever size tire you want. 245s are no problem. Learn to use 3rd a lot.
Do you have an autocross class you're trying to fit into or something?

I'm on 17X8 +35 or 15X8 effectively +30 to clear rear trailing arm.
So the 17X9 +45 would extend 2.7MM outwards which should be fine. But it's 22.7 less inner clearance. You're right, I probably don't have that kind of space back there, especially on springs/shocks. And then the spacer would make it poke way to far.
For 2018 I was STX. At this point I don't even know what class I want to run.
So maybe better to pinch a 235/40?

If it were my car and it wasn't a JCW (with the big brakes) I'd be on a 15x9 up front with the 245 Rival S and 15x8 with 225s out back and deal with the shifting. They don't make a bridgestone in the 235/40/17 so I'm not sure you can get that size in a tire that is sticky enough to be faster than just running the 215/45/17 RE71R. Compound >> Size.
If you don't want to buy new wheels then just run a 215/45/17 setup square and call it good enough.
Unless you've got some really fast STU people locally you might do just fine in STU. Or lobby your local region to keep the mini in STX regionally. Or maybe they have a SM on street tires class.

+35ish. Last event I ran my 15s I shifted to 3rd on four separate occasions so I'm still hesitant.
If I don't buy any wheels I'll go back to the RE-71 in 215. It's been a while since I've ran them and their still my favorite. But the BFG Rivals seems to wear better, especially on the outer edge (need more front camber).
I'd probably use the 15s with a 225/45 Federal RSRR or 225/50 Toyo R888 for track days. Right now it's opposite; 17s for track (215/40 RSRR) and 15s for autocross (225/45 Rival)
