Gen2 Caliper on Gen1

I upgraded to a Cobalt Brembo/GP2 Rotor package so sold my Gen1 JCW front brakes. One member had questions on whether the JCWs that are basically your Gen2 brakes with the red paint would fit his 16" wheels. He wondered whether he could use the Gen2 caliper on his wheels if he used the Gen1 stock size rotors.

So the question for the Gen2 S drivers is what size wheels you have?

The stock MINI calipers are designed for specific size rotors you can't just change rotor size without changing calipers or relocating calipers.

On some of the aftermarket brake kits like the wilwoods you can get either 11.75 or 12.2 rotors. But the caliper kit has spacers to install the caliper correctly.

I saw that question in your For Sale thread...

I have the 16" X-Lite 84 wheels for winter use, and they fit just fine over my 2012 R55 LCI Cooper S brakes with no spacers:

For some further clarification:

1.) The Gen1 S has a a 276 x 22 rotor
2.) The Gen2 Justa has a 280 x 22 rotor
3.) The Gen2 Justa and S have the same Caliper but the carriers are different to address as what Way Motors said the difference in the rotor sizes.
4.) The Gen2 S has a 294 x 22 rotor that is the same size as the Gen1 JCW. The calipers for these two different cars do have different part numbers. Of course the factory red paint on the JCW is one difference and there may also be some casting differences that were learned on the Gen1 and put in the newer design to help the Gen2.

The biggest difference I’ve noticed between the two is the JCW carrier is curved and heavy duty looking, and the 2nd gen S is thinner and straight.

I plan on putting your JCW calipers behind my 17" ROTA RB's.. 45 offset. Hoping not no need spacers...

They look great WNW...
