Which Run Flat?

I need to replace my worn Pirelli run-flats. Does anyone have an opinion on whether the Dunlop run-flats (Sp Sport 9000 DSSR) are better or worse? I will only be using them for normal street use.

On the other hand, maybe I should swap to non run-flats...

Thanks in advance for your opinions and/or advice.

If you stay w/ the runflats and are using them primarily for street use then stay w/ the Pirellis (cost less and 4 season tread)
Non runflat tires will cost less, ride better, give you more tread/brand/style options, but you'll have to take your chances w/ flats. Someone out there
makes a kit w/ Slime and some sort of inflator for those that choose to go
w/ the conventional tires.
HTH just a bit, I'm also considering going away from the runflats.

Go non-runflat, IMHO... Carry a can of Fix-a-Flat or Slime and a small compressor... save the money you'd have otherwise spent on the runflats for the next go 'round on tires. You can nearly buy 2 full sets of something like Yoko ES100's for the same price as one set of runflats... For extra piece of mind, get the Road Hazard warranty on the new tires - get a flat they can't fix and they'll swap out the bum tire...

You'll get a much better ride and better performance to boot!

OK I'm convinced...

There have been so many threads saying go non run-flat that I think I will finally jump off the fence...

My decision seems to come down to the Yoko AVE ES100's or the Prada Spec-2's. They seem to be roughly the same price. Anyone have pros and cons for these two?

Thanks!!

The Yokohama AVS ES100s are good all around tires in 215/45-17, 215/40-17 or even the stock 205/45-17 sizes. They perform well in wet or dry for traction and are not for snow.

Road noise is moderate and smoothness is good. Wear is moderate about 20,000 miles depending on rotation and use. It's good for street, some autocross or light track or driving school but it's not as performance oriented as the Prada Spec-2. I have the 17" size and it doesn't tramline on the freeways in my area.

Parada Spec-2 looks aggressive and performs better for autocross/track than the ES100 but it is noisy on the street and is better suited for those with larger 18" wheels
For daily driving I think the ES100 would be a better choice.

Talk to Alex@tirerack.com since he sells both

One last question!

I just phoned Big O Tires to get a price for the ES100's ($135 per tire installed, by the way). They recommended the Falken Ziex ZE-502's over the ES100's. Anyone heard of these or better still, use these and can give any feedback?

Thanks again.

$135 a tire installed sounds a bit high compared to what we pay here in Texas... we pay around $105-110 a tire including installation at Discount Tire, and it depends on your ability to negotiate.

One option is to order from Tire Rack, where you'll find much better prices... since they have lots of warehouses around the country, shipping is pretty cheap. You can even have them drop shipped to an authorized Tire Rack installer...

The Falken Ziex are decent enough tires... anecdotally, one person in our club has had them for awhile and likes them, but they seem to give it up a bit earlier than the ES100's with less predictability...
I've driven two S's back to back with the same size ES100 and Parada... didn't notice any difference at all, personally, and the ES100 is much better in the wet stuff.

Es100 is $97 ea in 205/45/17. With shpiing and install you'd still be less than Big O,

Call me to order

I wasn't that clear; the $135 includes tax, installation and balancing, so I'm not sure the difference is that great. Wouldn't Big O charge more to install a customer supplied tire?
