didnt feel like reading through all the suggestions, but just to throw it out there, ive had good experience with Toyo Extensa HP. its more of a summer tire. not really good for snow. a nice all season tire is the Mastercrat Strategy. if price is not a problem, the Conti DWS is a good standard pick.

on my r53 im currently running a staggered fitment of 215/45R17 in the front and 225/45R17 in the rear on Conti DW (not dwS). amazing wet and dry performance. massive stability bars and rain channels, along with an a-symmetrical tread pattern.

PSS are fantastic daily summer tire.

However, they are not really competitive for autoX if you want to win. They will get you 90% there, but if you want to trophy, you have to look at one of the following: {Hankook RS3; Dunlop Direzza ZII; BFG g-Force Rival}. Or an R-compound tire, depending on what class you are targeting.
Note, that all three of the above will be noisy, crazy-fast wearing, and otherwise sub-optimal for daily driver use. Usable, but not enjoyable.

YMMV,

Thanks for all the feedback.

FYI... last week we got a set of the A/S 3s. Car is much quieter, less harsh of a ride but from what I can tell still has at least the same handling. The Mrs. (who they were for) gives them a big thumbs up.

I'm in need of non-run flat summer replacement tires, and have Blizzaks on other rims for the winter. I've got 17x7" rims, and plan to go from 205/45-17 to 215/45-17. I may do some autocrossing, and am not too concerned about mileage. I've concluded one of the following is best from the TireRack;

--Continental Extreme Contact DW
--Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110
--Sumitomo HTR ZIII

Suggestions? Thanks!

I would go Conti DWS or Michelin AS3. I had Bridgestone Potenza 970AS, they weren't that good after 20k miles. Good sticky rubbers for all seasons in the summer. Performed decent in snow.

the potenzas are almost as stiff as the runflats. not bad, but if youre lookin to lose most of the stiffness, i wouldnt go with those.

the dw are the highest rated. i had them and loved them. very nice dry and wet traction. the ventus are nice also. the sumi i have no experience with.

i have never autox so i cantnreally suggest what would be best, but for a daily performance tire, the dw is my suggestion if you dont mind the somewhat higher price tag.

Dave,
You have a set of winter tires (kudos!), so it makes little sense to compromise on average-performance summer tires that border on all seasons.

As long as your budget allows, go for the best summer rubber you can afford. For occasional autoXing and all around outstanding summer traction consider one of the following 2 choices:
- Michelin PSS
- Bridgestone RE11a

I've have both on my cars, both are fantastic, quiet, reasonably durable, 95% of max possible autoX summer kick-*** tires.

If you want to trophy at autoX, you can push the performance envelope further with (Hanooks RS3's, BFG Rivals, or Dunlop Direzza ZII), but at expense of even shorter lifespan, daily noise, and wet traction complications.

Both PSS's and RE11a's are available in 215/45-17 size, and both are cheaper than their 205/45-17 equivalents.

I run Michelin PSS as I'm not a serious AutoX driver. If you decided o go further I have had many people recommend the RS3's and the ZII's. Both very good and extremely grippy great for AutoX or when having a spirited drive. But none of these tires usually go much further than 10k. But that's what warranty is for I guess.

Ichihara, I'm gonna get rid of my run flats this summeR. We're there any sensor issues you had to deal with?

Same TPMS sensors can and should be retained as you swap from run-flops to regular tires.

I always try to stick Pirelli P4 on my cars. Tons of grip, good look, and wear really nice. Seem like they last forever, and don't get hard even after 4-5 years.
