TPMS -> pain in the ***

Getting a set of winter tires/rims combo for my wife's mini, but don't feel like getting a second set of TPMS sensors. Can she just drive with the idiot light on? I'm not familiar with the car and would like to know if it's just a visual warning light. I have been driving for 20 years without ever popping a tire because I always check the pressure myself.

Yes, as far as I know it's just a warning light. I got a new set of tires and drove about 700mi with the light on before I installed sensors.

It is just a warning, that is all. However, she won't know if she does have a flat.

I bought a set of wheels and rims with TPMS 's from Tirerack; they set everything up. No problem ,easy as pie.

JPMM, +1 on that, got my summer tires with new 17s the same way. TireRack rocks the house. t-rd, it will run you just under +$200 for the TPMS over whatever you choose, I would recommend it especially for your wife (keep the peace) but its your momey, your call, its just an indicator lamp, as far as Im aware of nothing else unusual happens. Would doubly recommend if she doesnt have a spare, as a lot of us do not.

FWIW, the guys at NTB tried telling me that starting in 2013 they won't be able to let cars leave if the TPMS light is showing. Some sort of new reg for shops. Not sure how true...

I am experiencing a dead battery in at least one of my 5 year old TPMS units. At least the light does not STAY on.

$200 every 5-7 years + the cost of mounting and remounting the tires. Consider this when replacing tires near this time frame. (or if considering buying a used set)
