TPMS light On then OFF - No RESET option

Every time I start my '07 MINI w/OEM TMPS, I get a tire warning light on the tach and speedo display. After a few seconds they both go out, but a small warning triangle appears in the mileage display on the tach.

In the Check-Info option through the BC button, I get the tire warning symbol, but no option to reset like I have gotten before when changing wheels from summer to winter.

I have checked and double checked tire pressures and they are correct.

Are there batteries I need to replace? Is there a secret menu I need to find? I have done a reset before, but the option does not seem to be there anymore. Help please.

there are batteries in the wheel unit, they are not replaceable and the life expectancy is 5-7 years

after the batteries go, you must replace the wheel units

scott

edit: i asked the parts guy at the dealer ti show me the tpms sender unit, it appears they have some "watch/hearing aid" style batteries potted in, with enough time and patience, they probably could be replaced and repotted

I just got my new winter tires and wheels with TPMS from Tire Rack yesterday. This made me start wondering how they got power to send the signal. Now I know. Thanks.

Has anyone replaced these batteries? I sure don't want to purchase new ones.

So, the odd TPMS alerts are because of one or more batteries being dead? If I put on wheels without TPMS units in them, the alert comes on and stays on.

If I attempt this, will I have to worry about the seal on the unit itself. I know I will have to replace the valve to wheel seal.

Soldering/spot welding batteries?

i have replaced potted batteries in other things before, it is not easy to get the potting material out without damaging the componets within, it is a slow painstaking process

i would say you are better off buying new from tirerack or other aftermarket source

you can get them from the dealer too, for about double the price of tirerack
