new tires valve stem leaks

Just had new tires put on my '96 S with stock wheels and the next day the low tire light goes on. Discovered that the valve stem is leaking at the base.
Am I correct that the low tire reading is fromthe wheel and not the stem?
Could the stem have been damged when the new tires were put on?

ah, ok

a 2006 does not have tpms sensors - just regular valve stems (active tmps sensors came around during the 2007 run ... my 2007 does not have them)

check your receipt, cuz usually when you buy tires, they replace the stems and they are listed as a sep' charge: few dollars. and so I'd go back to the place you got them and have it fixed
