replace 1 RFT with Non RFT

So it happened, the tires have about 3000 miles on them and clipped a curb. I do not want to go with RunFlats again. Can I replace one with Non RunFlat. Running 195/55/16, live in Orange County so no snow and little rain.

Additionally, drivers should never mix winter tires with all-season/summer tires, or mix run-flat tires with non-run-flat tires. -- tirerack.com

I would not.

You can buy a single RFT of the same type and size used from the marketplace or eBay.

I have 3 runflat and one non in the same sizes you have. My non is on the right rear. I feel the rear come out easier on hard left hand turns, but honestly that can happen with ANY mis-matched tire. It would certainly be best to have all four tires matching, but I have no plans to fix my problem until they wear to the point where I need to.

Edit: After seeing the responses, and considering how I worded the above post, I have to appologize for giving bad advice. My sentiment was to say I've done it, and there IS a reason it's not recommended. But my car didn't suddenly burst into flames, either. My impression from my personal experience is that it doesn't feel any worse than running my winter set (all matched snow tires in decent condition), or driving a lesser car. However, in a panic situation, I have to admit that any difference in traction could make things bad in a hurry. I'm going to concede to the majority on this one.

Super bad idea to do this. The sidewalls are very different thus the tire roll is different between RF and non RF. At a minimum replace the two on the same axle until you can afford the other two.

That is a rather dangerous thing to do on your car. I am glad I am no longer living in Ct.

I did 3 No RFs and 1 RF. I would not suggest this at all. The car handles very very weird on top of the fact that it will throw a TPMS light. Not worth it. Either buy all 4 Non RFs or buy the one RF. If you buy a non RFs just sell your RF tires.

While it is tempting to replace only one tire it is unsafe. Also mixing two runflats with two non runflats also bad.

see

Best is to replace your one bad tire with another runflat of the same type or similar.

This is a pretty good runflat that isn't too expensive-

$145 each, 400 treadwear

Don't even replace 1 tire of the same type. The difference in tread thickness no matter how slight will create a wide range of problems. This from experience. it is unbelievable how sensative the MINI suspension is to even the slightest variation.

You'd have to check the tread depth of the tire what will match the replaced tire.

Typically the fronts wear faster unless you have been rotating but after 3000 miles that's not likely.

If the front tire blew which is likely since it was a curb, then treadwear will be 1/2 down so new and old tire tread depth will not be close. Then replacing tires on both fronts might be better for you.

Best to check the wear on the other tire of the same axle.

Thanks for all the feedback. I do believe I will have to go with replacement. Goodyear wants 350.00. So I may just replace the two front with Bridgestone. I like the price of TireRack but need to do it today.
Thanks again all who replied.
Lesson Learned, Don't drive wife's car, only the Jeep, it actually likes curbs.
