I wasn't sure of the finish on these wheels at first, but they're growing on me. The aren't exactly matte, it's more of a satin/eggshell finish. Now I just need some coilovers!

PS: I hope you guys like the blacked out trim. The shop I was recommended to was ****ing terrible. Here's a short list of things that made painting over the chrome trim take a month to complete. (I'm not exaggerating either)

Week 1
  • Quoted: $700 for total costs
  • Work begins
  • Shop breaks both door panels trying to get to the handles
Week 2
  • Car is returned
  • Rear brake lights out
  • Car doors don't open from the inside
  • Car doors do not unlock with key fob
  • I'm locked inside the car and have to return the vehicle to the shop to let me out of the car...
  • Car is brought back to the shop
  • Cost is raised additional $500 from initial quote for a job that is not finished.
  • I pay them and have it sent back to fix the "minor mix ups"
Week 3
  • Car is returned with brake lights still out
  • Door sills have been crushed and scraped
  • Paint is not clear coated on the front of the vehicle and is uneven
  • When doors are unlocked the doors open-lock-open-lock-open continuously for 3 seconds...
  • There is mud and dirt and dust on the interior of the car.
  • There is a ding and a scratch down to the metal in my door
  • Car goes back to the shop
Week 4
  • Brake lights are still out
  • There is now a scratch the size of my hand in the front black plastic on the bumper
  • Paint on trim is finally decent minus a huge thumbprint on the clear of the passenger side door handle
  • Original problems ignored
  • Lawyer is involved
  • Car goes to Mini to have repairs finished the same day and paint fixed the next at the shop's expense.
  • Car still has thumbprint in black paint on passenger side door handle (LOL)

Wow, that sucks. Yelp goes a long way to help future customers if you're willing to take two minutes to write a review of the shop.

BTW, i don't work for Yelp or have any affiliation with them, but I try to always Yelp a business before i go so i know what to expect. I like to believe it's save my @ss a few times.

If lawyers are involved, I'd lay low until it's all settled, IMHO. Businesses are starting to take action against attacks on Yelp. BBB may be a better place to vent.

Didn't consider that. I agree if lawyers are involved, wait until that dust settles.

As for Yelp, businesses have always been fighting the bad reviews. What business wants a negative light cast on them? You can usually sort out legitimate reviews from the ones who are simply bad mouthing or even trying to boost a bad reputation by putting in a good review.

The sad thing is that the shop gets amazing reviews on Yelp and their custom shop in the back was on the TV show Overhaulin'. I had high expectations going in, and was subsequently blindsided by the amount of stupidity and ******** they continued to give me. (I won't name the place) The manager kept saying he fired a bunch of guys for messing up the job. I had trouble buying that because the two guys he said he "fired" were walking around the back on my last visit.

-Fen- What a crappy experience. Sorry, man. Hope everything pans out in the end, but there's 4 weeks of you life you're never getting back.

I just noticed some overspray on my roof. Gotta stop by the shop tomorrow and have them deal with it. I imagine they have a simple solution...

Painted the spokes of my SSR wheels black, polished the lips, and clear coated them a couple months ago.

bahawton - there's a lot to like about that R53. Body color headlight rings & grille trim, JCW aero kit, the side stripe and the wheels are very unique. Well done!

Curious about the front bumper... do all JCW aero kits for the R53's come without the lower grille trim on upper grille?

Albiecrazy,

I made a lot of subtle changes that most people never notice 'till they see a stock MCS next to me- See below for a current list of exterior Mods:

JCW Aero Kit
JCW GP underbody panels
Body colored headlight rings
Body colored upper grill surround
Body colored M7 Ram Hood Scoop
Converted OEM fog lights to function as both fog lights & turn signals
Replaced amber side marker lenses with clear lenses using amber LED bulbs
Filled-in wheel arch lights, upper grill, and turn signal/running lights on front bumper
Filled-in wheel arch lights, replaced factory plug with extra reverse light, painted ducts black in rear bumper
Trimmed rear wheel arches, wheel well liner, and rear bumper for tire clearance
Painted chrome belt line black to match other trim
Removed rear window wiper
Removed all stickers/emblems except "Mini" emblems on the hood & over hole where rear wiper was removed
Replaced the chrome gas cap with a body colored cover unit from base model Cooper
Removed rear spoiler & filled in holes
Alta 2” antenna
Custom JCW logo side stripes

Damn that sucks... Seems like it's to be expected when doing anything creative these days. :/ People who work at a custom paint shop shouldn't be making simple mistakes like improperly masking off a vehicle.

I think I'm done with touching up my car for now. I have to finish paying off my student loans and pay my lawyer as well. (Luckily he's a close friend)

On a positive note I'm going to the track soon to meet this girl who's an 11 time national championship driver of mini coopers. :D I hope she's my driving instructor!
