Time to swap out tires and I will not be putting run flats back on. At the tire store, everything was fine until the guy saw my car and said they can't put standard tires on run flat rims. Is this correct?

That is not correct!

I have the same rims, and I ditched my runflats as soon as I drove my new car home... Just find another tire shop...

At some retail outlets, they will refuse to put standard tires on certain cars equipped with factory SSRs because they know there is no factory spare provided and they don't want to assume any liability should you get stranded somewhere.

short answer: find a better tire store

discussion

nothing about the rims requires the tires be run flats - unless there's something unique to 'black star bullet wheels'

MANY MINI are running on non-run flat tires and factory rims . . . I'm one of them (07s, 16"), and did so for a time on my 02s (17" S-lite) as well

this issue has come up b4 and if anything appears to be either a company policy or just a simple attempt to get you to buy more expensive tires. no one has yet produced documentation of a state having this as 'law'

many of us DO have reasons for prefering the run flat tires and caution that the decision to drop them be considered for reasons beyond cost ... but there is no technical requirement...

{ditto the myth that you can't patch/plug an RF btw .... but there ARE considerations about how long the tire may have been run with too little pressure . . . }

Thanks for the input. I thought that was odd but I haven't replaced tires on a car in several years. Waiting on a different shop to mount pilot sports right now.

Anyone have 4 Star Bullet Blk 17 for sale?

I have 4 polished black six spoke 16" rims from factory with 1 month old Turanza Serenitys, 205 - 55 - 16s on them. They look and ride great! I want to trade out. Thanks
