Calling them s lites was mini's idea of a joke!!
they are strong rims....for a few years you could get slites for almost free....made a great winter set of rims if you wanted 17's for winter to clear a bbk...
but many more choices in 16's or even 15's for snows....
Going to a light rims makes the car feel so different...
much more playful is a simple way to describe it...

Thanks for the link to the chart! Now I see why Imolas are so highly esteemed (aside from the complementary styling).

As for the S-lite moniker, I don't see it as a joke. It is MINI's tribute to the famous Minilite wheel. The name seems more fitting to me than Rota's "RB." Problem is that people read lite as "light," which the wheels certainly are not.

I'm sorry that I didn't see the 2nd gen 16" steel rim (catalog wheel for snow tires) listed. With the 15" steelie listed at under 15 lbs, it makes me think the 16 would still be lighter than my Daytona, while giving a retro look (painted silver, with chrome lugs and cap). I know there is nothing keeping me from going to a 15, but I do like the way a 16 looks on the R50.
