R53 Tire & Wheel Question

Hi all! Has anyone fitted a stock ride height R53 with on 18x8.5 et40 rims? Which among these tire sizes would be best without issues?
205, 215 or 225/40/18? Trying to avoid going 35 for obvious comfort reasons.
Thanks!

With 18x8.5 the safest bet is 205/40 with slight stretch or maybe the 215/40. I tried 225/35 over 18x7 48 offset and it rubbed the rear trailing arm and front struts, so needed 5mm spacers. But with bigger spacers and some dremmel action to the wheel wells and fender trim who knows.

Appreciate much your response! Just don't wanna experiment. Was thinking 18x8.5 et40 might be pushing it w/o spacers/trimming.

Don't know how wide my rims are but they're factory black JCW rims on my 06 cab. I run 215/40-18's with absolutely no rubbing, even fully loaded with my wife, the dog, and packed with gear for a 2 week road trip. I did have to remove my 15 mm spacers, though.
