Tire pressure sensors - how do they work?

I am asking this question because I just got a flat today, took it to a local garage which fixed it.

What I was wondering is, will the sensor that indicates that the tire pressure is low still work?

I didn't think to bring it up while they were fixing it and it occurred to me that the sensor may not work now.

Anyone know?

TIA.

It should work fine.

The only way it wouldn't work is if it were damaged by the tire repair.
If there was a problem with the sensor I would expect your Mini computer would detect that as well.

Good point, I think I'd receive a warning of some kind.

What I am unsure about is how it reads the pressure and then relays that info to the car. I am guessing the guy who fixed my flat would not have known to look for any special connection, so not 100% sure it's accurate.

I suppose I can test it by letting air out. Hmm...

The tire pressure monitoring sensors (TMPS) work off radio frequency.
They broadcast a signal to the antenna receiver under the rear bumper cover.
That module determines if the pressure in inadequate and relays a message to the instrument cluster.

Thanks - that's very interesting. So in theory, they should still work.

Thanks again - good info.

The sensors work with regular tires. They're only measuring pressure, how could they know the pressure is caused by a runflat or a regular tire? They work fine for me with regular tires.
