Help on Wheel and Tire size
Help on Wheel and Tire size
I have a 2006 JCW and wish to improve my car's road grip . I intend to use it in Club events , track days and some autocross in STX . I don't intend to modify the fender wells but want to mount larger than standard , light wheels and replace the run flats with a better performance tire. I will continue to use the run flats for everyday driving .
I am considering Motegi Racing MR125 wheels ( 17x7.5 et42 @ 16.4 # ) . What is the widest tire that will fit these wheels and still not rub the struts or wheel wells ? What brand of tire would you recomend , keeping in mind the restrictions of the SCCA rules for STX ?
Any recomendations on wheels and / or tires would be appreciated . Thanks.

I'd say 205/45's are the biggest without a chance of rubbing. I personally would target 215/45/17's - you may experience slight rubbing on the rear, but its easily correctable with a dremel. Good choices would be
Re11, best in wet of the 3, also a fast tire in dry.
R-S3, the fastest one in dry.
Pilot Supersport , the longest lasting particularly with track days.
