Continental ExtremeContact DWS.. My thoughts
I have the Extreme DW (initially intended to order the DWS but America's Tire had huge backorder on them). I've had them for maybe around 5k miles now. Bought them, much like others, wanted a tire that would achieve performance, tread life and affordability all at same time. I originally had Michelin PS 2's on my MCS - it's a no brainer that very few tires, if any touch the PS2 for handling and performance - seriously, felt like I could go into a 25mph at 100mph drinking a cup of tea (almost handled as good a porsche 987 i had before the MCS). But, with rather routine driving, regular rotating, the PS2 were shot in the front after barely 6k miles (the rears were perfect and those who've followed my posts before, know that the two good ones were part of a slew of parts stolen from my garage last year).
Since cost had to be an issue, I replaced the PS2 with a set of Falkens - had previous positive experience with Falken for both performance and tread life. Unfortunately, not the case for Falken and MINI - performace was blah, noise was bad and tread life was terrible! So, went to Continental.
So far the tire is great for dry and wet (I live in the region of SoCal that a few weeks ago got pounded with rain, mudslides and significant flooding). MCS did great! Again, not a PS2 but still feels good - but maybe I'll play around with higher psi to see how that works.
Looks like a good tire on car - mine isn't lowered yet, so the 17" with low profile tire and ACS kit leaves a bit too much wheel gap - eventually will mod the suspension

just an update we have been getting hit hard this year with snow and these tires are just amazing in the snow and wet. i just had them rotated after 5k and there is almost no sign of wear on them, even the guys at the tire place where amazed with the little amount of wear... these suckers are gonna last a looooong time. im def very happy that i chose these tires.
also quick question does the stock sport suspension kit option give the car a small drop?
heres a cool pic

Dont mean to backdoor the TireRack guys, but the Conti DWS's are available thru Discount Tire - I just got the 215/45/17's that were "in stock" at one of the local store... they are sweet in the snow, slush and mud!!
Any issues moving from a 205 to a 215?
2007 MCS
Are there any reasons to NOT move from a 205 to a 215? Need new tires...like the comments on the Continental DWS 215/45/R17. Currently on Continental run flats. Should there be any issue moving to a 215???
Thanks!

Yes a wider tire could cause slightly worse mpg due more grip/resistance. However not measurable by any of us. Yea now performance is less due to width but likely not noticeable when on the road with traffic. It will not rub unless you've messed with ride height or something. A stock r56. /w 17 and sport suspension or not will be fine. These possible gripes are really irrelevant.
You'll get a smoother ride. If you wanna motocross, get a good summer tire. You'll get loads of grip in all weather compaired to like tires. A great value for the $. The tire looks pretty good on the car and sits well on the tim with the added width.
All in all. If you want a good all season tire, smooth & grippy at a great price. Stop looking/ thinking and get them on your car. You'll be happy.
Any more thoughts on this tire?
I've seen some reviews mention bad handling and cornering - which is something I don't want!
I don't drive my MINI in the winter, but I need something that has a good tread life (19k miles each summer & I don't want to buy new tires every summer).
Tire Rack has a deal going on now that looks pretty good... 4 tires are $460ish + you get a free Flip UltraHD video camera (which could be sold for $90).

they are great tires. they don't have the tight feel you have with summer's or runflats. you'd probably want the pilot sport as+ if you want more of that from an a/s tire. that said, these have GREAT grip in all conditions. the handling isn't bad. just not near as firm(?) and tight. squishy/soft/smooth is the best way to describe it. if that makes sense. and i usually run 40psi in them.
90% of the time i don't notice the squishyness, 9% of the time i notice and think, that sucks but i love that i can do that in the rain, then just 1% of the time i wish i'd just bought some good stiff summer rubber.

well... i'm currently running 175/65/15 Continental ContiProContact (Grand Touring All-Season)...
I've never driven on a good summer tire so I probably wouldn't miss it?

[quote=amberback;3215269]oh, you'll be very happy camper in that case. first quick turn or first time it rains you'll be amazed. are you doing that same size or new wheels as well?
[QUOTE=jrcsh6;3215272]215/45/17. Got some new td pro race 1.2 wheels.
[QUOTE=jrcsh6;3215277]going to be throwing on some TSW lowering springs & adjustable camber links at the same time.... so yeah it will pretty much look and drive like a different car.
[quote=amberback;3215283]cool. i know nothing about that stuff so no ideal on that. let us know what you think of the rubber!
I've had them for almost a year and 7k miles (yea, I don't drive a lot of miles). I am very happy with them and I would buy them again in a heartbeat. Fabulous traction in all weather. I replaced 205/45/17 with 215's -- I like the slightly wider look.
