yep- the Koreans are getting quite good at this. first, it was trying to make a product on par with Toyota/Lexus/Nissan/Infiniti, and the latest Hyundais reflect this marked increase in BQ and reliability. Now they'e going after the northern Eurpoean countries with snow tires. The 'kook iPike is an exact copy of the Nokian hakkawhatevers. going to put a set on my 09 S here soon. Great reviews, and they seem to last forever, unlike some of the name brands.

So after reading this and other winter tire threads, I have a similar but slightly different question. I should mention that this is the first car I've had with performance tires so I'm out of my comfort zone.

I just picked up a 2009 Clubman JCW with around 19k miles. It has Dunlop SPORT 01 DSST 205/45R17 tires on it now. I live in Cincinnati and the Mini is my daily ride (by choice, I have another option for really messy days). The snow here is not terrible - we can get 1 or 2 bad snow days, but then I just stay home

So my question is do I go for a set of winter tires with or without wheels, or do I go for a new set of all-season tires to replace the Dunlops since they are getting old (20k is getting old isn't it?). I'm not planning on going to the track or anything like that, so getting high performance again is not a must have.

Thanks for any advice!
Ed

So here is my question - I am going twice to Colorado this ski season. Are a new set of the ContiProContact SSR(Grand Touring All-Season) good enough for deeper snow or should I invest in a set of winter tires. I have 17' inch tires right now

I went with the Michelin ICE in 215x45x17". They are good in deep snow, as well as ice, which is my concern. The other tire that I considered was the Dunlop M-3, they were even better in deep snow. These are available thru Tire Rack.
