Brake service light on R56

My rear brake service warning came on about 2 weeks ago. I have already purchased rotors and pads but, was wondering if I need to get sensors? I know on the R53 the light for brakes will come on and you have to get new sensors. I searched and nothing really came back. thanks for the help.

You will likely need sensors.

Cool that is what I was wondering I wasn't sure. I guess I will be getting those prior to installing my brakes.

Sensors needed

I replaced my pads and Now the break warning lights are on - took it to mini of sterling and was told that the only way to reset the warning lights is to replace the sensors - and then reset the light... Do it when you do your breaks

The rear brake service is on on my 07MCS also, I had looked at the pads when I had the wheels off a few weeks back and a quick look at the pads, they looked ok, then my rear brake service indicator counted down and the light came on. Thought it was just that the miles to service was in the negative causing the light to be on but pulled the wheels off again today and took a closer look. A little more worn than I first thought. Also as far as brake senors, there is 1 on the left front and 1 on the right rear, not 1 on each wheel. I had read that somewhere and visually verified it today. I only had a sensor on the right rear pad. I had tried to reset it, but I think the sensor has got the light locked in.

Once the copper contact is broken on the sensor the light will come on and the sensor will need to be replaced. If you do your own maintenance you can cut off the end of the sensor and twist the two wires together. Then do the service light reset procedure and be done with it. Of course you'll need to check your pad wear manually every so often which is no big deal if you occasionally remove your wheels for autoX or cleaning.
