Another size and tire question for Alex
ALex,
sorry to bug you one more time with a question about tire sizes:
I thought I had narroewd my choices for new tires for stock V-spoke 16" rims down to Goodyear F1 (new addition to my list), Bridgestone RE750 and Yokohama AVS. Finally I had decided to go with the F1 in 205/50-16 size (top choice, followed by RE750 and AVS).
Unfortunately this size is sold out and backordered, and best I got on availability was 4-6 weeks.
So, I looked around some more, and now am considering the F1 in other sizes vs the Bridgestone Potenza RE750.
For the F1 I could get (in stock at TireRack):
205/55-16 (1.8% larger diameter than stock) or:
225/50-16 (1.7% larger diameter)
both of these are listed as suitable for my rim size, and both have a 4.4" sidewall (a little more than the 4.2" stock). The 225 of course would be very wide with a section width of 9.1". Would this size still fit without rubbing? How about the 205/55?
My only other choice at this poit would be the Potenza which is available in the more fitting size of 205/50-16, but based on my recent reviews is my second choice of tire after the Goodyear.
Any recommendations? I need to order now (can't wait for the F1 backorder in 205/50) since my current tires are bald.
TIA!
Markus

205/55 may rub with people in back
225/50 will take some major fenderlip frimming
I personally take the S-03 over the Gs-d3.
The goodyear went just as fat for me on the track, but in transition(slaloming)
thew goodyear never "felt" life it settled in. The went as quickly, the s-03 just felt better. This is splitting hairs.

S03's are very wide vs other tires. 205's came out to about 225mm from
edge to edge of tire... (i actually measured it) you will be surprised how
wide those tires are.
my wrx uses S03's in 225/45/17. they are actually ~245mm width from
edge to edge.
based on that, if you're using factory wheels i think you'll be okay.
be careful when choosing the S03's.
