I'm just about to purchase my first MINI Cooper S. The dealer is willing to give me a good break on the cost of his last set of JCW R113 (205/40 R18) tires and rims, but I am wondering if I should just save the money and get some 3rd party tires and rims instead. Given the fact that the tires are run-flats, and I've read some unkind things about performance and repairs of these, do you think it's a good purchase?

 

I think 18" rims are too big for the car. Another potential negative is run flat tires. If it were me, I'd get a nice set of 17" rims if you don't like the stock wheels for some reason.

 

Depends what dealer thinks is a good deal?

 

I'd rather buy a set of OZ ultraleggera's with wider non-runflats and save some cash.

 

It's academic now. I got the R113's for $500 off the list price, and he's installing them now. I'll be back looking for suggestions on replacement tires at some point in the (hopefully distant) future.
