best way to sell wheels
best way to sell wheels
Hello all, what is the best way to sell a set of nice wheels? I have a set of 17" BBS RGR diamond black painted wheels but I'm reluctant to put them on ebay or craig's list due to all the scams these days. Any other ideas?
List them here with a picture on the marketplace. I've sold many sets of wheels here--they may not sell right away, but I've sold everything I've placed. And the majority of people here a like minded; I could have probably sold my wheels at other places quicker, but there aren't any headaches here--everyone is pretty much legit.
For what it's worth, the marketplace here is checked out by more than just MINI owners--the last set of wheels I sold were to a Miata owner.

Thanks for the info. Just got done posting an ad on marketplace, here's the link:

True, but even if you're protected, and have to go through the process of restitution after a scam, it's not much fun. All I'm saying is that the people here are for the most part easier to deal with than the mass marketing places, just my opinion.
eBay gives you the widest possible audience, and it's easy to avoid being scammed as a seller - you just don't deliver the goods until the funds are in your fat little fist in the form of cash. If that means that you need to wait 14 business days for checks to clear to make sure they're not bogus, so be it - just make sure you're clear about your policy in the auction description.
The big drawback to a non-local sale is the shipping, especially if the shipping costs are going to be high. Some people are hesitant to buy a $200 item if they're also going to have to pay $100 in shipping. I don't know what a reasonable cost for your wheels will be, though, so I don't know if the shipping cost will be a significant portion of the buyer's total cost.
Craigslist is nice, but any time anyone wants to look at the wheels, you either have to let them know where you live (and worry about them helping themselves to your wheels later that night), or haul the wheels to a neutral meeting place to show them to the prospective buyer. Also, the market is much smaller.
But when Craigslist works, it's a thing of beauty. Someone comes to you, lays cash in your palm and leaves with your stuff - no muss, no fuss, no packing/shipping/waiting/insurance or anything like that.
