Should work. Same lug pattern. The only thing I've heard about incompatibility with wheels is that the R53 apparently had smaller lugs, so the lugs holes on some after market rims for the R53 are apparently too small for the R56 (although I've never personally experienced this problem). I would think that since they're factory rims, they would be fine though.

they do! I just sold mine (off a 05 R53) to a guy with an R56 bolted on with the stock R56 hardware with no problem! as far as the aftermarket wheels I dont think I have heard of any being too small for the R56 mini used 12mm bolts with the R53 and went to 14mm on the 2nd gen. but most aftermarket wheels are not brand specific and I think only MG (besides MINI) used the 12mm so all aftermarket wheels should work as well as long as they have the cone seat and dont mount with a flat seat for the bolts

 

I bought wheels from an 05 for my 08 because I liked them better. They fit fine.
