I am looking at tires for my new S-lites. I just realized the Kumho MX tires I have from my old car, nearly un-used, are a 205/40/17. Will that fit and be relatively safe to run on this rim?

Safe? Probably. The 205/40 is 3.34% smaller than the stock 205/45 so you'll have some speedometer issues. Just make sure the load rating is adequate.

Load rating is at 84. Is that too low? The Falken tires on the wheels right now are 87.

I'd think you should be ok. On Tire Rack's site, a lot of the 215/40-17s have an 83 load rating, and lots of folks run that size.
