Tire/Wheel question

Hi all,

I have a set of rims but the tires are not correct for the Mini. But I don't know what kind I can use that are not too expensive ($400 range for 4). I would perfer a high peformance series. Any suggestions would be appreciative.

The specifications of the rims I have are:

Kosei K1
15x7inch
+38 mm off set.

Thank you in advance for help!

Edgeracing.com has several types of acceptable lower cost tires. I have ordered several sets of tires from them in the past and been happy with the results. Currently I am running a set of Hankooks that suit my needs very well.

Contrary to popular belief on this forum, the finest racing tires available are not needed for daily driving.

Good luck, don't tell anyone what you decide, make them get down on their knees and look at your tires to see.

Which MINI do you have?
Stock suspension?

Is this for street use only?

What are your priorities? List them in order top is most important:
Long treadlife
Handling in dry vs wet weather
Comfort (low noise, not bumpy)

Will you use these tires in any snow? Any temperatures under 38 degrees.

For the 15x7 rim the most common tire size is-
205/55-15

Ultra HP Summer tires-
General Exclaim UHP $63 each 380 treadwear (comfortable)
BF Goodrich g-Force Sport $77 each 340 treadwear

High Performance Summer tires-
Aren't as good for the MINI in performance or value.

Ultra HP All Season tires (ok for snow)-
Continental ContiExtremeContact $86 each 400 treadwear
Kumho Ecsta ASX $69 each 420 treadwear
and
Falken Ze-912 $63 each 360 treadwear

High Perf All Season tires-
Bridgestone Potenza G009 $92 each closeout 460 treadwear
Yokohama Avid V4S $82 each 500 treadwear
and in 195/60-15
Bridgestone Potenza G-19 Grid (new tire) $71 each 460 treadwear

I sold these wheels to BriMini. We've known eachother for a couple decades now so I want to add in a question or two here to make sure that everything works out.

His MINI is a stock '07 Cooper.

These wheels were formerly on my Miata and they used a hub centering ring on that car... but on the Mini, the ring doesn't fit the hub. Is there any need for this ring or is it only for ease of mounting the wheels on the car? I have never run them without the rings...

If I understood him correctly (and he can verify this) he's looking for a grippy/wide tire to use in spring/sumer/fall and switch back to all seasons in the winter.. so the main compromise would have to be rain performance since snow won't be an issue. Is that right, Bri?

The 205/55/15 sounds right... is this identical to stock diameter? Is that the widest tire that he can fit on the car (with these rims?)

I have to say that I adore that Mini and I'm psyched every time he lets me take the wheel. Its every bit as much fun as a Miata.

That wheel may not fit because the stud holes may be drilled to 12mm and the 07" Mini's are 14mm. As for the center rings, I would find ones that work because they center the wheel on to your hub and eliminate wheel vibration.

Leo,
Thanks for the input there but the studs aren't an issue as we had these wheels on the car momentarily already and they fit fine...

As for the wheel vibrations without the centering ring, is that right? Can anyone else weigh in on that? We did have some vibration but I thought this was because the Khumo MXs that were on there were pretty worn and old (many autocrosses). Its hard to visualize where the movement would come from since there isn't any slack around the studs.

If the centering ring is needed, is there a source for those?
