Expected tire wear
Expected tire wear
June of last year, I replaced my OEM Eagle RFs for Dunlap SP Sport 9000 DSST RF. Now, less than a year and only 20265 miles later, I have to replace them. I do not peel, squeal nor auto-cross. Spirited driving is taking the roundabouts at speed (>50km/h). I'm putting about 50-60 miles per day on these tires, in the city, and do drive on the autobahn maybe 20 miles total, once a week. Tire pressures are per the car specs, about 36 PSI cold, and there does not appear to be any alignment issues with the tires.
My questions for ya'll are what am I doing wrong to burn through these tires? Is it too much to expect more than 20-25k miles on these tires given reasonable, normal driving style? Or, if I want tires that'll last ~40k miles, do I need to pull down from the Dunlaps and get something more "all season"-ish? Mind you, the Eagles went in only 24k miles and these Dunlaps were supposed to last longer but didn't. Needless to say, the wife is not happy at the prospect of another ~$1200 on tires less than a year later. Thanks for ya'll's inputs.
Cheers!!

20k on a set of tires doesn't seem unreasonable, honestly. Of course, it varies by tire, but I'm not surprised that those tires are on their way out with that many miles.
If you're comfortable with it, you could go with non-runflats because they are significantly cheaper. If you're worried about getting a flat, you could pick up an extra wheel and have a tire on that, and just keep that at the house. If you do get a flat, limp it, or have it towed home and put the extra wheel on.

Got about 21k on my Dunlop 9000 DSST run flats. Any performance tire is going to have low mileage, a/s will last longer due to less soft compound. I put on Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec and carry a can of slime and a compressor. If there is a sidewall problem it gets flatbedded to a replacement facility.
Suggest you try a set of General Exclaim UHP's. For non-track applications, this is an excellent tire: comfortable, long-wearing, quiet, good grip wet or dry, and exceptionally lightweight. Also relatively inexpensive. If you are not into competition or track, this is a package which is hard to beat for value.
Yes, use up the runflats first.
They can last about 20-22K miles if you rotate front to back every 5-6K miles but if you have TPMS you have to reset it when doing rotations.
If you don't rotate the fronts will wear faster and you can buy new tires sooner. The faster you driver and the harder you take corners the faster the outer edges of the front tires will wear out.
Keep tire pressure up all the time.

You definately need to get away from the runflats... $1200 a year for the runflats is ludicrous. For spirited street driving you can get a nice tire for $500 -$600 installed.
I really like my Falken 912 at the moment and I got them installed for $450.
