Well, I just did a brake job on my 2008 MCs at 45,000 miles, and the front rotors were wore almost to minimum thickness. I managed to get them turned, when the shop was through they were at minimum thickness. With just normal street driving, they warped within 5000 miles(.05 runout on both rotors), so I had to replace the front rotors anyway. I ordered a set from Brake Performance, as they were cheaper than any others I had seen. Got a set of drilled & slotted front rotors for $140. We'll see how they hold up. I debated the drilled/cracking vs. nondrilled argument, but figured since it's a street car and I don't use the brakes that hard, I should get tp the point where I have to worry about cracking. I'll be keeping an eye on them for cracking around the holes.

Since the first time getting the brakes done is free under the maintenance plan, would the dealer let me pay the difference to get the JCW drilled rotors?

Drill and slotted rotors will work fine on the street. My '08 MCS came with the JCW brake kit and the rotors where that way.

They're great unless you track the car... they'll wear out the pads MUCH faster.

On my '09 JCW, the JCW comes with regular rotors.

I changed my daily pads to Carbotech ceramics for the street and swap in a set of track pads when going to the track.

If you have a cool dealer, I think they will. I've done that trick several times over the years when I had my '08 MCS.

$1200 is insane

I just did mine for just under $200,that includes new pads, crossdrilled & slotted rotors, a can of brake clean, and a can of red caliper paint !

Love driving and owning my 2006 MINI S Convertible. Nice dealership and service reps out front. Scheduling an appointment is challenging. Was quoted a brake job this trip (38,000 miles) of $750. MINI has been in the shop seven days, took two days for them to get started.

Right

You are totally right, I just changed all the rear rotors, pads and sensors MINI suggested to change, and I paid $670 for parts and Labor. When I first quoted the price I thought they were crazy AF, so I quoted them at Meineke and they gave me a $900 charge for the rear brakes.. So obviously I decided to get them changed at the MINI dealership.

lol i just got back from the dealer they said the light was brakes need replaced light and it was 750 for front and 600 back
i asked if that came with a reach around
auto zone $50 lifetime pads per axle and $60 Rotors per wheel
they use the same parts on almost all minis and bmw so they make almost 1 million units a year no reason for the price raping like they are special parts

also my spare key wouldn't do cas

he said oooh it needs programed they can do it for $75
glad i was broke found how to on google for free took 2 mins

CAS key reprograming

Press either the remote key lock or unlock button four times in
succession.
• With the car unlocked, switch on the ignition briefly and then off and
remove the key, now within 10-seconds press the lock and unlock
buttons in succession.
It is not necessary to synchronise all the keys together. As the key
codes are stored in the BC1, the synchronisation procedure is simply
aligning the rolling code in the BC1 to the individual key and will not
affect any additional keys.

this makes it very easy to steal our cars just fyi per google threads
