STORING TIRES
STORING TIRES
I have my winter tires stacked on the floor in the garage. Is this the best way to store them? Should they be stored upright? I see a tire rack on Tire Rack's web site that stores them upright, but I wonder if that will make a flat spot on the tire.
I live in Arkansas. There is no such thing as a cool dry place between May and September. Unless of course I store them in the house. Hmm. Can I disguise them as furniture or art to fool the wife?
I did use the circular cardboard pieces that Tire Rack used to ship them to set the bottom one on and to space in between them. I will check at Depot this week.
Do you think one of those covers you see in magazines and other places are of value?
Mine won't get wet in the garage from rain, but it is extremely hot and humid here in the summer. At least after I get the roof fixed from the hail damage last week it shouldn't leak water.
I have both the Tire Garage -

and the Rack -

I've not had a problem with either option. The Rack does give me more floor space though.

If your garage is big enough (or if you can convince your spouse to bring them in the house), there's always the fashionable end table option. Here's the snow tire/holie design just waiting for an HGTV endorsement:

After a long and snowy winter, I finally took the plunge today and swapped to my summer tire/wheel setup -- and I'm feelin' good, Lewis!
^^ I have to say though, MiniMayBee's rack is pretty cool.

I've done the same thing with the cardboard and film-like packing material. My summer set up was fine through the winter. Finally put them back on a couple weeks ago.
