12mm or 14mm?

This is sort of following an earlier thread about a fellow motorist purchasing some aftermarket Rota brand wheels. But they raised concern about wheels fitting over the stock lug bolts. I was wondering if anyone could shed a little light on when this changeover occured before the R56 production. A couple of points:

1.) According to my local Mini parts department my car was produced in June 2006 and replacements are for 12mm, according to the parts book (which he said is pretty accurate, but has been known to be incorrect).

2.) Tire Rack's website asks, specifically, if your 2006 S model was made prior to May 2006, or after May 2006 (I assume for the 12mm/14mm changeover).

So, anyone from Tire Rack or another poster able to field the question as to what month the changeover actually occured?

Thanks much!

12mm or 14mm

Getting ready to buy new wheels and have the same question. My Cabrio was built in Sept. 2006. Should I assume that I have 14mm lugs?

Tourek...you are right on the switch-over line. Sorry, I don't have any good suggestion for you as far as whether or not you have 12 or 14 other than just taking one out and measuring the hole/bolt. Are you in a local club where you can get help from someone?

Minimae....I think you are pretty safe with assuming 14mm...

I have an October build 2006....but I bought conversion studs from Texas Speed Werks that has 14mm on the hubside of the bolt and 12mm for the wheel. I'm very glad I bought them so I wouldn't be too limited on wheel choices.

As far as I know, they are the only ones that have this type of bolt conversion kit.

I am in the same boat as tourek.
June 06 build MINI.
According to tirerack the line is at May 06.
According to RealOEM.com the line is at July 06.
Time to pull out the measuring tape and a bolt.

And does anyone know of a good place to buy the tuner lug bolts?

According to the MINI ETK (Electronic Parts Catalog) up to and including 06/06 is 12mm, 07/06 and beyond is 14mm

My understanding is that it happened in either July or August. My August build 06 was the first car with 14mm bolts that Edge Racing ever dealt with. Caused some issues with wheel fitment.

Alternatively you could just pull one of the wheel bolts off and measure it.
