Snows on the front only?
Snows on the front only?
I doing a roadtrip this week, Breckenridge to Houston, for a wedding.
I obviously want to tun my summer tires for the trip, and have only one pass (Loveland pass)to worry about, that might have snow/slush.
So I'm thinking about putting my summer wheels on the back, snows up front, until I get to Denver. Then swap the fronts to the summer wheels.
I'll leave my 2 snows in Denver and put them back on on my way back home.
Think this is OK? it's really only about 50 miles of road that could possibly be bad. I coudl swap all 4, but it will be pretty cramped with 4 tires and luggage, etc.
Thanks

Bad idea!!!! You should never mix summer/winter tires. The fronts(winter tires) will have much more traction and steering ability, this could cause the back end of the car to want to swap ends with the front end, not a good idea, worse on a mountain road.

Personally I think it's a risk... better than running 4 summers through snow & slush? Absolutely... but your back end is probably going to slide around like nobody's business, and your rear brakes will be effectively useless.
Just be extra careful, that's all I'm saying.

+1 50 miles can be pretty long if the weather is unforgiving.
