Wilwood brake kit squeeking
Wilwood brake kit squeeking
I have installed my Wilwood Racing front caliper kit for over 1 year now. Just recently the pads started squeeking when coming to a full stop. I took the pads out and see that there is more than 50% still left. I sanded them down lightly and this worked for about 2 weeks and the moise is back again. Any ideas on what should be done? If i nee to buy need pads where is a good place to buy them? Thanks
Squeaking is a sign of vibration. There are some "sticky back" shims that can help this or you can put some brake goo on them from a local auto parts store. As a track kit however this should be of little concern so you may also want to review the pad compound you're now running- get the numbers off the box or the back of the pad.
Lastly while out take a grinder and taper the leading edge of the pad a bit to remove the square block it has now. And remove, bend and replace the pad tension clips while you're in there.
I stock nearly all of this all the time if you need something.

What pads are you using? I found the Wilwood pads (BP-10, E, and Q) to squeak no matter what I did. I switched to Hawk HPS for the street and they work great and no squeak. I use Wilwood B compound for the track, they squeak but that is expected.
The pad number depends on what type of calipers came with your kit. The pad backing plate shape (specific shape number) and pad thickness determine the pad part number.
I have the 13" TCE/Wilwood kit with 0.8" rotors and Wilwood FSL calipers. I am using Hawk HPS pads P/N HB101F.800 that I had to slightly modify to work with the FSL calipers. The mod was to grind a semi-circle groove in the top of the backing plate where the pad pin goes across the caliper. I believe Hawk has direct replacement pads (no mods) for most other Wilwood calipers.

Some HB101s are available with the cope for the large bridge bolt, I used to supply HPS on some kits a few years ago.
The DP caliper is a bit harder to cross over. There are some pad plates that are the same in size but will not accept the pad clip. Be certain you search for the proper pad thickness as well as this need for the quick change clip.
