Tire choice

Quick question: Decided to stick with run flats for my second set. Hate the Dunlop sport things I got with the car so need to change. Have a choice between the Goodyear Eagle thingies or the Continental contipro thingummy bobs. Which ones to go for. Criteria: Road noise, handling (mostly dry) but bumpy roads, length of tread life...so which to go for? Any help would be appreciated.

For runflats, the Contis are quite civilized and are not excessively noisy.

Just FYI. I had one of my Dunlop runflats repaired yesterday because of a nail in the tread. Done by Discount Tires, easy fix. Anyway they showed me the price of the three manufacturer's runflats and added that Goodyear will not permit their runflats to be repaired, must be replaced. If that's universal or not I don't know. Just food for thought.

Off topic; I was impressed by the sensitivity of the system. The warning light came on with 35psi in the three good tires and 27psi in the bad one.

I seem to remember Goodyear being more expensive, coupled with the fact that they can't/won't be repaired...mmm, contis maybe...

I don't think you have to use run flat tires in Taiwan, cos you can find tire

store easily in Taiwan when you got problem.

I suggest you could change them for conti CSC3, and it is good enough for

daily use, even sometime you want to drive fast a little bit.

If youre thinking about the Goodyear Eagles RS-A runflats i wouldnt recommend those, i have 22,000 miles on them and even though they have lots of visible tread, they dont stick to the pavement at all in snowy conditions and even on dry pavement they dont feel too confident

Which model Dunlop run flat tire did you have? I actually didn't mind the stock Dunlop SP5000s that came with the car. Other than the rough ride, I thought they were a good all around tire.

I'd suggest you give tire rack a call and get their input also.

I personally hate the Goodyear RS-A tire also. Absolutely terrible grip in any condition.

What size tire are you looking for?

205/45-17

195/55-16

How many miles did your first set of tires last? Did you rotate tires every 5000-6000 miles?

The Kumho ASX (or is it SPT?) is available as a runflat for cheap, and has good reviews. www.tirerack.com is your friend...

My '07 "S" came with Dunlop 17" Sport 01's and they were the worst tire I ever had. You felt every bump... which really grows old after a year or so! After apparently hitting a pothole my front left Dunlop had a small bubble on it... I decided to get rid of them and put on a set of Continental Pro Contact run flats. The seem to get the highest overall ratings for an "all season" type tire. My car drives better then ever, the bumps are smoothed out, the car corners great and they are really quiet. I will never go back to Dunlop. Just my opion...

Jonny,

I have a set of barely used ContiPro Contact SSR all season run flats that I would like to sell. They are the original equipment 195/55 R16 that came with the car. I have 1500 gentle break-in period miles on them. Nothing wrong with them, I just don't care for run flats.

Tire Rack's web site lists them for $122 each. I'll sell mine for $90 plus shipping (continental US only). If you live in the Seattle area you could pick them up.

If you're interested, please send a PM or look for the add that I'll post on the marketplace forum later today.

You should reconsider staying with run-flats. I have my Conti fun-flat take-offs in my garage. I HATE them.
