Recs sought for dedicated 110v air compressor for tire inflation
I've never been satisfied with the slow fill rate of my 12v air compressors and I really don't like having to go out of my way to fill my tires at a gas station. As a result, I'm thinking of getting a dedicated shop compressor to fill my tires. For now, that's all I really need it for, but I might want to use it for other things in the future. I can't justify paying too much in case I decide to run a sander in the future, but it might be nice to be able to run some air tools (nailer, etc.)
I'm also in an apartment, so noise is an issue. The oil-less models are quite loud in general, from what I've read.
Does anyone have a small air compressor with a tank which they use mainly for filling tires? Which one & how many cfm at 90psi does it produce? How long does it take to top off a tire (adding 5psi, or so)?
The one which seems like a good candidate for portability, really low noise, and acceptable performance is the Makita Hot Dog MAC700.
I can get it for about $170. There are cheaper models available, but they are usually the noisy oil-free kind.
In a related topic, I see that some people carry outboard air tanks in their cars on track days. I think these are 5-10 gallons. How long do these take to fill up, and how many tires can they top off?
Thanks!
