Brakes feel soft after pad/rotor job.

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Helv][SIZE=2]Did the brakes and rotors today on my 03 MCS. All stock OEM stuff. No problems, used the Harbor Freight tool to turn the rear calipers in.

I know that it takes a while for new brakes to set in, but my brake pedal feels a little softer than before. Like I have to apply more pressure to get the car stopped. The brake fluid level was high when I was finished, almost to the top of the reservoir so I took some fluid out to get to the max mark.

Any comments?

Brake Pads Replacement

Did my brakes last week, as I have had experience with replacements before I got my Cooper, went out and bought the rear caliper tool. ( Princes Automotive $18.00). After bads have been installed, ( don't forget the sensors on the front left and back right) You must pump the pedal with car off no key, until it is solid. Then check the reserviour to see if any is needed. Do this and bleeding in NOT required and all the sensors will not flash off error codes. By the way the aftermarket OEM pads last 20-30 K, more expensive HD pads lasted me 80K, you do the math.

I once heard that after pad change to work the e brake several times to set rear pads. True or false??? Don't know, but couldn't hurt. If this actually helps move piston out keep an eye on fluid level. I had the same problem. Even MINI mechanic said the peddle had a great feel even though I'd swear it was soft compared to before brake job.

Did you bed the pads as directed by the maker?

How old is the brake fluid? If more than 2 years old, have the system flushed and install new fluid.

Ate Super Blue is a great choice for new fluid, and its a 1 liter bottle.
