Both those tires are fine and relatively well priced.

What is your suspension setup?

What class of autocross would you compete in? Extreme Performance tires are worth a look. 24.9" tire diameter is taller than stock and OK for stock suspension but a bit too tall for lowered MINIs.

You can run Max performance Summer tires on the street if your weather is mild. Cold is not good for those tires and they generally wear out (200 treadwear likely).

Consider Extreme Performance Summer tire-
Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R 140 treadwear
205/45-16 $151 each fits rims 6.5-7.5" wide, 23.2" tire diameter 21 lbs
205/55-16 $109 each fits rims 5.5-7.5" wide, 24.9" tire diameter 26 lbs
225/50-16 $117 each fits rims 6-8" wide, 24.9" tire diameter 27 lbs
Better performance wet or dry, faster wearing.

Another possible tire to consider is BF Goodrich g-Force KDW-2
300 treadwear Ultra High Performance Summer tire.
205/40-16 $125 each fits rims 7-8" wide, 22.4" tire diameter
205/45-16 $127 each fits rims 6.5-7.5" wide, 23.1" tire diameter
205/50-16 $119 each fits rims 5.5-7.5" wide, 24.1" tire diameter
215/40-16 $136 each fits rims 7-8.5" wide, 23.0" tire diameter
225/45-16 $143 each fits rims 7-8.5" wide, 23.7" tire diameter

M7 Springs will give you a drop so smaller than stock tire diameter and 215mm tires would work.

215/45-16 doesn't give any Extreme Performance or Max Performance tires at tirerack.com

That size fits rims 7-8" wide 23.6" tire diameter.

That size shows very limited tires in UHP summer class:
Dunlop Direzza DZ101 $127 each 300 treadwear 21 lbs
Bridgestone Potenza RE010 $169 right or left, 120 treadwear 22 lbs
Yokohama A022H0 $238 each closeout (Honda left) 120 treadwear 21 lbs

Edgeracing.com shows-
Both Max Performance Summer tires rated 200 treadwear
Falken Azenis Rt615 $89 each 21.7 lbs
Hankook RS2 Z212 $90 each 20.5 lbs

215/45-16 Azenis work really well as a combo street/auto-x 9 month tire. I've gone through one set of the 615 Azenis, and 7 sets of the original 215 model Azenis on the MCS, all in that size. The Hankooks may be better for street/track day use, by some reports.

The new Bridgestone RE01-R is an even better street/auto-x tire (maybe the best you can buy right now), but the 16" sizes aren't great for a MINI. Either really short, or too tall.

We ran 15" wheels on the Mini for autoX event to test the Falken 615 and Hankook Rs2. The Rs2 gave the best times on the course so I would suggest those over the RT615's. The tire size we ran was 205/50R15. Let me know if you have any questions.
